The story of how Dora and Sleepy came into our lives is on the page for the drawing of Sleepy and is the classic tale of the orphans left on the doorstep! However, the story of their first trip to the vet will give you a glimpse into Dora’s personality: The kittens were very tiny—so young they had to be bottle fed. Dora had an upper respiratory infection requiring medication, which the vet decided to give in a small pill. Of course, Dora refused the pill. After a few tries, the vet got her assistant and used a “pill shooter” with a syringe of water to follow so Dora would swallow it. The vet, satisfied that Dora had taken her medication, turned to me to give me care instructions. Dora sat calmly, looking from the vet to me, back to the vet, when suddenly—SPLAT!!—she spit the pill and water all the way across the room against the far wall, no mean feat for a kitten small enough to fit in the palm of your hand! The vet did finally get her to take the pill, but it took two more people and a lot of gentle effort, while I helplessly collapsed laughing in a corner!!! Dora is a sweet cat, but she always lets you know what she thinks.
